In previous years I have been donating a lifestyle shoot as a prize to the National Childbirth Trust.  One of the winning members had their photography shoot just before Christmas and we had the viewing for them last week.

Jackson, can I just say I wanted to take him home with me but I didn’t think Lisa and Richard would have allowed me!

It was a  great shoot!  Jackson was a delight and it only took only around an hour from start to finish as he just did all the right things for me to get the shots that I wanted.

Such a lovely family too and we laughed and laughed!  There is a particular sound that Jackson says and it sounds like “Barbara” – I think you had to be there to understand…. V.funny!

The portraits of Jackson were shot very wide at around 3.2f and I loved the effect!  Here are just a handful of my favourite shots from the shoot (there were so many!!)

urban teenage shoot

I have been fortunate to be taking a slight deviation in my photographic career……. I am no longer shooting weddings.  The reason why? Well, I find them incredibly stressful as I want to do my very best and the pressure to make sure that everything has to be covered I find too much and I used to worry for days about them so I decided to give them up!  I have many photographer friends who love weddings but my first love is photographing families and now teenagers!

I had a family lifestyle shoot in September that I have mentioned on my business Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/anniearmitagephotography but I hadn’t actually blogged about it.

The family live in Richmond upon Thames and came across me by chance at a local fair and loved my work which I must say – there is nothing better than a client coming to you because of style.

The shoot took place entirely at their home as they wanted their life documented in my style which was fabulous!  The house, the children’ s bedrooms were a wonderful backdrop to the story of the shoot. Gabriella and Lola were such fun and  one can see from the images that the whole family enjoyed the experience as much as I did.

I always like to shoot details of the most precious items in the children’s bedrooms as I like to create memories which can be used in an album to tell the story.

Some of my most favourite shots of families are on the bed, jumping around and having fun.

This family have been very encouraging of my work and it has been wonderful working with them!

Some of my photography friends would have heard of Guy Gowan – and for those of you who haven’t…… you really should!!!!  www.guygowan.com

I have known Guy for around 2 years now and this summer I just mentioned in passing that I needed more men for my portfolio and the next time he was over from Ireland could I shoot him in “Annie” style.  Guy then suggested that I went over to Donegal as he was in need of new images for his website.  So in late September I went over to Ireland with my fractured ankle……….

I had my ideas of what I wanted and Guy had his so we worked out a plan to ensure all them were covered.

We were incredibly fortunate with the weather………. it wasn’t raining and the light was amazing so armed with with my 85mm 1.2 and trusty reflector we spent an afternoon zipping around the coast looking for different locations.   The images that Guy specifically needed included landscape shots with him in the foreground which can be used at the top of his website.  The images that  I wanted were to tell a story.  I have been inspired by going to the Irving Penn’s exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in recent months and I was hoping to find a natural light indoor shot which would be different to the usual portraits that I am known for.

Guy quite often uses a square crop on an image  so I have been experimenting with this

We did have to stop for a pint of Guinness……….

These images have my post production but I left copies of my RAW files with Guy so he could do whatever  he wanted with them!

I met Sam and Damian at the home of my very good friends Vicky and Russell who recommended my work to them.

The wedding took place at the very glamorous location  – The Kensington Roof Gardens which is just the most amazing venue!  I had already done a recce and met with Frances the wedding co-ordinator there (who is fabulous) and planned my main shots in advance of the day.  What with pink flamingoes and glorious views I knew that I was going to have a great time!

Sam got ready in the Moo room which is a round room with mirrors, windows, cow hide and pink and red wall paper.

Sam’s daughter Morgan was so excited (particularly about her toy horse that she had been given that morning).  Rhea (Sam’s sister ) and Sheila (Sam’s mum) were there too and we had a great morning! Shan (the make up artist) was amazing how she had applied such great make up that looked so natural.

Sam’s dress was from Burberry which was stunning and the dress was perfect for her and the shoes…………well Christian Louboutins in exactly the same shade as the dress – this was obviously meant to be.

Damian was slightly more wary of the camera but I was still able to put him at his ease and took some natural shots of him throughout the day.

The ceremony and the rest of the day was fabulous!  The weather – perfect – slight cloud but warm and then the sun was streaming down late afternoon as the wedding breakfast took place under a large canopy.  I felt that I was in the mediterranean some where!

The evening reception took place back in the room where the ceremony had taken place – an amazing transformation!

I have many images from this shoot as I really wanted to tell the story of the day and of their great love for one another – they are a very special couple!

Wishing Sam and Damian a very happy life together and with Morgan too – all the very best for their new life in Washington D.C later this year.

I have been shooting larger weddings with my very good friend Geraint Davies and together we were commsioned for Tom and Stella’s wedding back in July.  The wedding took place at her local parish church and the marquee reception on the lawns of her 15th century home.

It was an incredibly sunny day and it couldn’t be more perfect for them.  Stella had worked so hard on all the details that the wedding did run like clockwork.

Tom and Stella’s engagement shoot was featured on her a few months ago.

It has been a while since I have updated my blog, this is not because I haven’t had anything to say but my work with my clients has had to come first and I have had the most amazing time in recent weeks.  I now have a few days to finally catch up before the build up to bookings for Christmas and for those of you who are interested I have only a couple of weekend dates in October and a handful for November.

I am not only being commissioned for shoots of little ones but more and more families are coming to me for shoots of their teenagers which is so much fun as I recreate a fashion shoot feel to the whole event with changes of clothes and a mixture of urban and rural backdrop and they are proving to be a great success!

Laura is the most beautiful young woman and we had so much fun with using a local antique market and mosaic art subways as backdrops to her shoot.  I used natural light the majority of the time except for shots against the sky where I under exposed and balanced with flash to bring in the sky detail.
