I am slightly behind in my blogging which is outrageous!

The above happened a month ago at the London College of Communication, University of Arts London and I had 2 pieces of work exhibited with one of the pieces being used as one of the top 6  images chosen to headline the Full of Life campaign to celebrate “Older People’s Day”  which was the 1st October which celebrates the role of older people in our lives.

The images were featured in the Independant online, The Guardian online and Daily Express Online which was amazing media coverage for me as a photographer.

The exhibition was hosted in conjunction with the LCC and supported by Age Concern and the Prince’s Trust.

I called this piece “Symphony”  and features Peggy who used to be a professional dancer so I within the image I wanted to encorporate dance by showing movement.  The little girls in the background are Millie and Charlotte.

The next image is of Dr John Elsom who is a client of mine and was commissioned earlier on this year to do a headshot shoot for him.  This also was in the exhibition.

I was commissioned by Little Bevan (Couturier of children’s special event wear) www.littlebevan.co.uk to photograph their new ready to wear collection for their new website that is being developed at the moment and for their advertising campaign.  There were 8 children under 5 including a baby and 1-year-old.  The shoot took place at the beautiful Warren House in Kingston upon Thames.  www.warrenhouse.com

I have been away for a 3 day training in photography business management. This included days dedicated to marketing and sales and then a days shooting with a guest photographer.  Here are the family who modelled for us and were amazing – not only in looks but so accommodating to a horde of marauding photographers – we were like the paparazzi!!! The family were, Trudi with husband Richard and their beautiful children Luke and Lily.

The shoot started in out buildings with the colours in the background being rusty with browns and golds.  The sun was full on so spot metering was essential as we were using purely natural light and the final part of the shoot took place in a field – lots of fun was had by the children by running and jumping being thrown around by dad and by mum!  They had a great time too – so did we!

Training should never stop as a photographer and even though I have been a professional for over 2 years now it is always wonderful to see how other people work.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my work is going into nurseries/child minders and photographing the children at play.  By the end of a session I usually have 2 children on my lap playing with my necklaces and the children just love to have the photograph taken.  

I usually take a range of shots per child (with previous permission granted) ranging from happy to pensive, looking at the camera – looking away etc and these are then put online in a password protected gallery for the parents to buy online.

I hadn’t seen Angela for ages and then she called to ask if I could do a baby shoot for her!  I hadn’t known she was pregnant!  So of course I was delighted to be asked.  One of the main reasons for the shoot was that announcement/thank you cards could be made from one of the images.  My friend Kashmira (who has designed all my artwork including the logo and advertisements) has a company called Ant design and she has designs of greeting cards, invitations and also I make use of her designs for my clients who want to utilise an image from the shoot with me.

 

At the pre-shoot visit with Angela it was super to meet baby Leo who was 7 weeks when the shoot took place.  I went through the ideas of what I thought would work and the type of shots so when the shoot took place there was no time wasted on discussing requirements.

All the shots used natural light except for some images of the family shots in the bedroom where I needed a smaller aperture so that everyone was in focus and I used fill in flash for the family shot outside.

Bonnie and Martin and their beautiful children Pierce and Ashton commissioned me for a shoot which took place a week ago.

This took place at their home and we used the conservatory and the garden too.  The conservatory had a daybed and numerous toys which I needed to be out of view to get the group shots that required a white space without having to put backgrounds up and lights.  

One of the things on my list for the shoot was to capture the energy and fun of the two boys which I think I did!

The shoot was tiring – for all of us!  But we had loads of fun and it shows in the following images.

We started with the group shot in the conservatory and then we went outside with the bubbles!!  Fun was had by the boys by climbing trees, being pulled in a cart, climbing on daddy and riding bikes around the garden….

The shoot finished off back in the conservatory after a biscuit break and the cars came out and it was so lovely to see the boys play together – they are such good friends! 

There were more cuddles with mummy and daddy and Pierce and Ashton ran around……. I had to capture how fast they are – hence the next shot showing the movement of Ashton.

and finally I took some shots of the very beautiful Bonnie who had been up very early with the boys but she looks amazing!

I have been incredibly busy and it was wonderful to have a break with my family and have two weeks in Greece to rest and recharge.

We went to Hanioti, Greece which is tourist resort and although the beach was very busy (blue flag and very clean though) our hotel was quiet with a wonderful pool area.  Evenings were balmy and warm and the square in the centre of the town was alive with families both tourists and locals enjoying the atmosphere.

We had one day on a yacht called “Pythagorus” which was owned by Sven and the hours went by slowly as we sunbathed on deck and diving into aquamarine waters – it was quite a day! www.daysailing.gr

Wherever I go my camera isn’t too far behind and I took my Canon 5D body and 16-35 mm 2.8L ,70-200 mm 2.8L and my 50mm 1.4.  It was a fabulous opportunity to shoot for me and think of new interpretations of what was around me instead of shooting predictable vacation images…

I am now getting back into the swing of things!  I am sure that one has to have to have a week off just to get over having a holiday!  So here are an eclectic mix of images from my vacation!  I have 4/5 shoots from before I went away to show on this blog varying from pregnancy shoots to promotional headshots to be uploaded in the next few days
